Participation Guidelines
Eligibility:- Teams are subject to the Eligibility requirements outlined in the Rules section of the DSC website.
- Teams can compete in no more than one Functional track:
- Energy & Environment
- IT & Media
- Healthcare & Life Sciences
- Social Enterprises
- Products & Services
- Teams may also compete in one or both of the Special Interest tracks if they are eligible:
- Women Entrepreneurs
- The team must be led by a woman that is a Duke student.
- The pitch must be delivered by a female Duke student in all tracks the team competes in.
- Undergraduate Entrepreneurs
- The team must be led by an undergraduate Duke student.
- The pitch must be delivered by the Duke undergraduate student in all tracks the team competes in.
- Examples of eligibility:
- A team led by an undergraduate woman is eligible to compete in up to three tracks: one functional track, Women Entrepreneurs track, and Undergraduate Entrepreneurs track
- A team led by an undergraduate man is eligible to compete in up to two tracks: one functional track and the Undergraduate Entrepreneurs track
- A team led by a graduate woman is eligible to compete in up to two tracks: one functional track and the Women Entrepreneurs track
Prizes:- Total Cash + Prizes: $5,750

- Judges choice: $150 cash + Quickbooks Pro ($200 value) per track (x5)
- Audience choice: $100 cash + Quickbooks Pro ($200 value) per track (x5)

Pitch Guidelines:- Each pitch cannot take more than 2 minutes (120 seconds) and must be delivered verbally.
- Up to two members of the team can deliver the pitch.
- The pitch must be delivered by a Duke student. In addition, any teams that compete in Special Interest tracks have additional requirements. The woman or undergraduate must deliver the pitch (subject to above Eligibility requirements).
- Each team can submit a single PowerPoint slide to be used during their pitch at the events. The slide should be static and include no animation. Please include your team name clearly on the slide. . The slide can be submitted via email to hwr2@duke.edu. Please include in the email subject line “Elevator Pitch Slide – [team name]”. We will not accept any submissions that were received after the November 11, 5pm deadline.

Judging:- Each track will have its own set of judges from the entrepreneurship community.
- After each 2 minute pitch, there will be a 3 minute question and answer (Q&A) period with the judges.
- Judges will pick one “Judges Choice” winner at each track competition.
- The audience will also pick a separate “Audience Choice” winner via a voting process at each track competition.

Elevator Pitch Finals on November 20:- Two teams from each track will advance to the Elevator Pitch Finals:
- Winning the Judges Choice for a Functional or Special Interest track automatically advances you to the Finals
- Winning the Audience Choice for a Functional or Special Interest track automatically advances you to the Finals.
- If a single team wins both the Judges Choice and Audience Choice, the second place Judges Choice will advance.
- At the finals event, the winners of the track events will give their pitch to a new set of judges and audience.
